Persimmon

Senior thesis film in progress, all 3d rendered in Blender using painterly shaders I created.

Messenger

A girl on a bike is intrigued by a cabin in the woods. Rendered in Blender.

elevated

A city-born-and-raised mountain goat, unaware of his instinctual love with mountains, experiences for the first time the desire to be somewhere else. I wanted to make a short capturing 'desire'. In this short, the desire of the goat to be somewhere else and be someone else, doing something else, helped transform temporarily the environment and him.

An independent animated short, “Elevated”, currently work in progess, made using Substance Painter, Blender, Maya, and Rokoko Motion Studio.

Cat Room

May 2022

Using Maya for modelling, XGen for hair groom, lighting, and animating, Substance Painter for texturing and Blender for storyboarding, I created this scene of a cat sitting in her living room watching TV, which is an aquarium with two blue gills.

homesick for another world

April 2022 —

Character shaded in Substance Painter, modelled and animated in Blender, composited with NASA archival footage. The challenge requires a short film inspired by, and using, actual footage from NASA's digital archives for a chance to be be screened at the Houston Cinema Arts Festival this November.

Synopsis:

Set in the post-Earth world where humans live on Mars, the little astronaut leaves her home for the first time, excited about the unknown. Going on a journey on her own, she at first marvels at the beauty of the Earth, but soon she discovers that the outside world is exciting yet unpredictable.

Procedural Bluegill shader

March 2022

I modelled and created a procedural shader in Maya for the bluegill that allows one to change attributes such as “Stripe Frequency”, “Stripe Pattern”, “Base Colour”, “Stripe Colour”, “Contrast”, “Stripe/Dot Intensity” to create unique looks for the fish in a matter of seconds. Here is a video that demonstrates 8 unique looks using the shader.

Fur simulation in XGen

April 2022

I designed, modelled, textured and groomed this character using a combination of Blender and Maya. (The character is a sad kitty that has been through a lot)

Off Track

Oct-Dec 2021

I worked on this animated film I pitched originally with a team of five others. On this team, I took on the role of a technical director, contributing towards camera animation, character animation, layout, blocking, facial rigging (UV transform, BlendShape), and troubleshooting other technical issues we faced.

I pitched an original story about a robot that fell off of a train accidentally and encounters a group of bunnies. His clumsy attempts to be accepted are both funny heartwarming.

LogLine:

A worker robot falls off his train by accident and is met with a group of unconcerned bunnies.

I also worked on the initial layout of the world in a toon style.

Garden in Jacque Tati’s Mon Oncle

(BROWN RISD DUAL DEGREE EXHIBITION “TRANSLATION” PIECE)

August 2021

My inspiration for this piece comes from the French director Jacque Tati's film, Mon Oncle. The film is extremely well-composed, painterly, and super stylised. I wondered what it would look like if I translated it across mediums and mimicked the whimsical energy of the shot with similar textures and cute character design.

The piece has the potential to be part of a larger series, where I translate expressive, intriguing shots from live-action movies into 3D animations using Blender. I am interested in this translation work to understand the limits of cartoonish 3D animation - Are some ideas just better expressed in life action? As a student in the Film/Animation/Video department with a photography background, who recently found a passion for 3D work, I want to explore in depth the advantages of live-action and computer graphics in films.
